Chief Executive Officers – Care business

The Chief Executive Officer would be responsible for overall strategic direction of the care/healthcare business and will provide leadership and management guidance together with responsibility for the overall operations of the business. They will be supported by a team of professionals in various functional areas. Sizes of business under management may vary depending on specific circumstances. The role requirement would include proven previous experience and qualifications of running a successful business. Salary and perquisites for this role will be dependent on the qualifications, size of role, experience and deliverables.

Regional Managers – Care business

This role would involve managing and running a cluster of care homes and ensure that leadership and management support is provided for on-site managers, involvement in recruitment strategies, ensure regulatory policies are complied with robustly and audits are conducted to improve efficiencies and operations. Education, training and infrastructure planning will all be part of the role. Previous successful experience in similar roles would be preferred together with suitable qualifications. Level 5 or equivalent in Health and Social care or Nursing with relevant managerial experience would be required.

Care Home Managers

This job involves managing care facilities that may include Children, Differently abled, Elderly residential, Elderly nursing and Mental health. Degree in nursing or equivalent and/or a Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care desirable. Their responsibility span cover all the activities of the home from recruitment and training, audits, ensure policies and procedures are complied with, an excellent rapport is maintained with a range of health partners, commercial viability is consistently met and customer outcomes are in focus and maintain strong interpersonal relationships.

They typically work about 40 hours per week however their commitment is larger as they are on call and will have to meet emergency commitments in the home whenever required. They should be accessible at all times or there should be suitable delegation arranged and escalation arrangements put in place to meet emergency situations. They may also need to substitute nurse absences and other shortfalls on a contingent basis. 

Salary and perquisites will be dependent on qualifications, experience and the level of responsibility including size of the home.

Deputy Managers and Unit Managers

The jobs may involve providing support to the Home Manager and managing a smaller unit in a larger nursing or residential care home. Typically 5 days a week however the roles may involve being on the floor to fulfil requirements. Experience in a similar role prior preferred and managerial roles are expected to be on call in emergencies.

The job would involve managing a small number of staff, implementing policies and procedures, audits, managing rotas and a comprehensive overview of the home and its activities.

Salary and perquisites will be dependent on qualification and experience.

Clinical Lead

This role is undertaken by senior nurses with experience of 4-5 years to provide a second line of defence to the home managers and to support the nurses. They will typically work on 33 hours or 44 hours shift per week, flexible day and night and will step into a nurses role should there be a rota shortfall.

They will be qualified with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution and will hold a valid NMC pin to practice. Salaries vary depending on experience. Annual holiday entitlement and sick pay will be usually as per government guidelines but this may vary with employers. All employers will have to provide a statutory pension option.

Nurses

Nursing jobs and Nurse roles are performed primarily in care settings, hospitals, GP surgeries, pharmacies and laboratories.

UK qualified nurses - Bachelors degree in nursing or equivalent from an accredited institution. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council with an active PIN.

Internationally qualified nurses - Bachelors in Nursing from an accredited institution. OET/IELTS pass with the minimum required scores. CBT pass. Valid UK work permit. The initial job role will be a Senior Care Assistant till they successfully complete the OSCE exam in the UK within a stipulated time frame.

Typically, nurse shifts are 12 hour shifts of 44 hours per week with flexibility to work days and nights. However, there are individuals who may wish to work days or nights based on their personal circumstances and there can be jobs available to meet this requirement as well. Salaries of nurses vary depending on experience. Annual holiday entitlement and sick pay will be usually as per government guidelines but this may vary with employers. All employers will have to provide a statutory pension option.

Lunch breaks as per NMC guidelines.

Senior Care assistants

This role involves providing personal care, medication, support in completing care plans and having completed various training courses in Moving and Handling, Infection Control, Medication, End of life care, Communication, Data Protection, Dementia and others. NVQ 2/NVQ 3 qualification desirable.

SCA shifts are 12 hour shifts of 44 hours with flexibility to work days and nights. However, there are individuals who may wish to days or nights and lesser hours based on their personal circumstances and there can be jobs available to meet this requirement as well. Salaries of SCA’s vary depending on experience. Annual holiday entitlement and sick pay will be usually as per government guidelines. All employers will have to provide a pension option. One hour lunch break or as per guidelines if there are other nurses on site.

Care Assistants

Care assistants are the heartbeat of a care home providing personal care to its residents including washing, assistance in drinking and eating, mobility of residents, oral healthcare, planning activities and in completing the regular day to day tasks. Desirable to have a Care Certificate or a NVQ2 qualification but can be waived for entrants to care who have the empathy, commitment and aptitude to provide good outcomes for residents.

Care Assistant shifts are 12 hour shifts of 44 hours with flexibility to work days and nights. However, there are individuals who may wish to days or nights based on their personal circumstances and there can be jobs available to meet this requirement as well. Annual holiday entitlement and sick pay will be as per government guidelines. All employers will have to provide a pension option. One hour lunch break or as per guidelines. There will be a one hour unpaid lunch break.
